Overview

Pierre Grenier is a partner in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution group of Dentons’ Montréal office. His practice focuses more particularly on the construction/infrastructure and energy sectors.

Pierre represents owners and developers, general and specialized contractors in major infrastructure and construction projects, equipment manufacturers, financial institutions, industrial corporations and investors. More particularly, he assists and advises owners and contractors with dispute resolution with facilitative processes (negotiation and mediation), and before specialized panels (adjudication, arbitration) and judicial courts. Pierre has also developed particular expertise in the energy sector in Québec and in reliability standards for electric power transmission, as well as in all aspects of issues and risk management related to various and complex construction projects (from drafting to claims management), the preparation of contractual agreements and the exercise of rights and remedies under corporate laws, including claims against directors and officers and minority shareholder remedies. Pierre is also called upon to act as arbitrator in commercial matters and construction projects.

With regards to energy and construction law, Pierre has been responsible for legal strategy in complex cases, coordinated the drafting and supervision of numerous opinions, procedures and expertise, drafted elaborate dispute resolution processes for complex infrastructure projects, and participated in various dispute resolution processes as a litigator. He also advises the firm's other lawyers in cases involving similar legal issues.

In his role as President of the Institut de médiation et d’arbitrage du Québec (IMAQ), Pierre was called upon by the Québec Treasury Board to assist in the development and implementation of the Prompt Payment and Adjudication Legislation. Pierre has also distinguished himself on the Canadian Delegation to the United Nations UNCITRAL Working Group II (Dispute Resolution), where he has contributed to the design and implementation of various dispute resolution instruments, including the Singapore Convention.

Since 2014, Pierre serves as President/Chairman of the Board of Directors of IMAQ.
