Overview

Laura Konkel is Senior Counsel in Akin's New York office and is qualified as a lawyer in New York and Ontario. Her corporate practice focuses on mining, critical minerals, projects and energy transition. She advises on complex transactions, including strategic acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures and financings, with particular experience involving mining companies and critical-mineral assets. Her work also covers corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, renewable energy and transactions involving government-backed financing. Before private practice, Konkel worked in the United States defence sector and served as a researcher for the Parliament of Canada on legislative and policy initiatives related to resource development. She earned her J.D. from the University of Ottawa Faculty of Common Law, as well as master's degrees in intelligence and international security from King's College London and international relations from the University of St Andrews.
