Ken Dhaliwal (He/ Him/ His) is the National Practice Group Co-Leader for Media and Entertainment at Dentons and a highly experienced legal advisor specializing in media and entertainment law. He provides strategic counsel to an extensive client base encompassing Canadian and international independent producers, foreign broadcasters, major Hollywood studios and streamers, distributors, financial institutions, and private equity firms. His deep understanding of industry intricacies enables him to navigate clients through complex legal matters, thereby facilitating their growth and success.

Ken’s extensive industry knowledge means he is uniquely placed to guide clients through complex legal matters while maximizing creative and commercial outcomes. He frequently advises clients on the areas of financing, distribution, Canadian incentives (including Canadian Heritage issues), intellectual property protection and the structuring of productions and transactions to maximize the benefits of Canadian incentives.

Ken remains a frequently sought-after industry speaker. In the past year, he was invited to address an accomplished cohort of international producers at the inaugural Canada-Germany Animation Lab. This initiative, designed to foster co-production opportunities between Canadian and German mid-career producers in animated content, comprised a series of workshops focusing on Canada-Germany co-production frameworks, pitch preparation, and meeting strategies.

Ken’s experience is highly recognized across the leading legal directories and in the film and television community, including Chambers Canada (Band 1 – Media and Entertainment), Lawyer of the Year in Best Lawyers and his inclusion into the Legal 500 Hall of Fame.
