Overview

Gabrielle Moisan has specialized in the prosecution of patent applications in the field of life sciences since 1998.

She is a member of the Barreau du Québec and the Ordre des chimistes du Québec, and is a registered patent agent in both Canada and the United States.

Gabrielle Moisan provides opinions on patentability, validity, infringement and the freedom to operate, both for due diligence and with respect to the management of patent portfolios. She also assists companies with drafting contracts and implementing internal policies. She provides professional recommendations to her clients so that they can best protect their interests and assets while taking into account their global business strategy.

As part of her studies in biochemistry, at the Université de Montréal, Gabrielle Moisan completed a research internship, where she studied the RNA expression of potatoes having undergone stress (Dr. N. Brisson’s laboratory, Université de Montréal). She also did an internship in the field of oncogenic viruses, where she studied HPV proteins (Dr. M. Yaniv’s laboratory, Pasteur Institute in Paris).

Gabrielle Moisan then completed a master’s degree in molecular biology at Université de Montréal. Her research project focused on the expression of neurofilament proteins in lung cancer (Dr. E. Bradley’s Laboratory, Cancer Institute of Montreal).

Gabrielle acquired her Patents and Trademarks degree from the Centre for International Intellectual Property Studies (CEIPI) at Robert Schumann University in Strasbourg, France, a centre for engineers and jurists who are interested in pursuing a career in intellectual property in France.

After studying law at McGill University and La Sorbonne, in Paris, Gabrielle began her career as a lawyer at Robic in 1998. She subsequently worked for 7 years in the intellectual property department of an important Canadian biotechnology company, where she was responsible for managing patent and trademark portfolios related to the development of vaccines against bacteria (Streptococcus pneumoniae, group B streptococcus (GBS), Neisseria meningitidis, Chlamydia trachomatis).

Due to her diverse background, Gabrielle has developed a holistic understanding of companies’ needs, including the effective strategy and financial management of a patent portfolio and the protection, valorization and publication of experimental data. Working closely with Robic’s corporate department, she is experienced with drafting contracts such as confidentiality agreements, material transfer agreements and collaboration agreements, and with choosing trademarks in the field of biotechnology.

With clients in Canada and abroad, Gabrielle continues to monitor scientific progress with respect to cancer, hormones, diseases of the nervous system, infections in both humans and animals, but also in the field of agriculture, cannabis and the environment, through the lens of molecular biology, biochemistry and chemistry.

Gabrielle Moisan is a member of the life sciences committee at Robic and is actively involved with the company newsletter.

She also contributes articles on intellectual property to the newsletter issued by the Ordre des chimistes du Québec.
