Overview

Rebecca Crane is counsel at Blakes in Toronto and focuses on complex patent disputes in the pharmaceutical and life sciences sector. She regularly acts in proceedings under the Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations, including matters involving innovative medicines, formulations and dosage forms. Rebecca also advises on intellectual property strategy and life sciences regulatory issues, including matters before Canada's Patented Medicine Prices Review Board. Her scientific background informs her legal work: she holds a PhD in microbiology and has several years of bench-research experience in protein biochemistry, microbiology and molecular biology. She works with clients to understand their technology and commercial objectives, then applies that perspective to patent litigation and regulatory strategy. Rebecca has represented clients before the Federal Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal and the PMPRB. She earned her JD from the University of Toronto and was admitted to the Ontario bar in 2006.
