Kara Smyth is a partner in our Litigation & Dispute Resolution Group in Calgary, co-lead of the Firm’s Food and Agribusiness Group, and a member of the Firm’s Board of Partners. Renowned for her innovative approach to handling complex business disputes, her practice focuses primarily on corporate-commercial, class action, and public law litigation. Kara represents clients in a number of fora and across a diverse range of industries, including energy, renewables, agribusiness, commercial real estate, retail, and technology. Her experience includes disputes involving commercial contracts, product liability, environmental claims, data compensation, judicial reviews, and complex commercial transactions. Appointed King’s Counsel (KC) in 2026, Kara is recognized for excellence in the practice of law and a demonstrated commitment to community service.

Kara frequently advises on court proceedings that attract media attention and works closely with in-house teams and communications advisors to ensure litigation strategy aligns with broader business and reputational objectives.
