Overview

Ted Thiessen is a partner in McMillan's Tax Group, working from the firm's Calgary and Vancouver offices. He advises Canadian multinational groups and private equity investors on the tax aspects of mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, corporate reorganizations and financing transactions. Ted's transactional practice has a particular emphasis on the resource sector, where he represents clients with upstream and midstream assets and investments. He also advises established and emerging businesses on the design and implementation of long-term incentive plans. His representative work includes tax counsel on a Canadian fintech company's initial public offering, and his broader industry experience covers oil and gas, energy, mining, startups and emerging companies. Ted was called to the Alberta Bar in 2004 and the British Columbia Bar in 2023. He is a member of the Canadian Tax Foundation, Canadian Petroleum Tax Society, Canadian Bar Association and Law Society of Alberta.
