Overview

Lori Stein is a Toronto partner in McCarthy Tetrault's Business Law Group and a co-head of its Fintech Group. Her practice concentrates on Canadian securities regulation, investment products, fintech and digital assets. She advises fintech businesses, portfolio managers, dealers, investment fund managers and institutional investors on regulatory requirements, product development and compliance. Lori helps clients assess legal and regulatory risk involving crypto assets and blockchain infrastructure, and she regularly engages with the Canadian Securities Administrators on behalf of crypto-asset trading platforms and other fintech participants. Her work also includes applications for registration and exemptive relief, regulatory audits, investigations and strategic transactions. Before returning to private practice, Lori spent a decade in-house at Canadian hedge funds, experience that informs her practical understanding of operational and client-side concerns.
