Overview

Dan is a Partner in our Halifax office who works in the areas of civil litigation, class actions and tax litigation. Dan has successfully advocated for his clients before various courts and administrative tribunals, including the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia, the Tax Court of Canada and the Federal Court and the Federal Court of Appeal. Dan has successfully represented Canada’s disabled veterans in a number of cases to ensure that these deserving people obtain access to justice and the full amount of their benefits. These cases have resulted in some of the largest financial recoveries in Canadian legal history. These cases include the following: Dan is co-counsel for Dennis Manuge and over 7,500 disabled Canadian Forces veterans in the class action Manuge v. Canada , 2012 FC 499. The Manuge case ( Manuge v. Canada , 2010 SCC 67) was the first time that the Supreme Court of Canada upheld the certification of a constitutional class action. Dan has appeared on The National, The World at Six and various other media outlets discussing the Manuge class action and other issues facing disabled veterans. Dan is co-counsel for over 1,000 disabled RCMP veterans in the successful class action of Buote Estate v. Canada , 2014 FC 773. Dan is lead counsel for over 8,500 CAF veterans in the successful class action of Logan v. Canada , 2020 FC 404.
