Overview

Sian Laing is an associate in Gowling WLG's Calgary office and a member of the firm's advocacy department. Her practice focuses primarily on health law and medical defence, including work as counsel to the Canadian Medical Protective Association and its member physicians. Before moving to Alberta, she maintained a broad litigation practice at a prominent regional law firm in Halifax, Nova Scotia. That work included matters concerning regulated professions, commercial disputes, administrative law proceedings, and medical and personal injury defence. Laing has represented clients before every level of court in Nova Scotia, as well as the Federal Court of Canada and the Federal Court of Appeal. She was also involved in a matter that received leave to appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada. Her tribunal experience includes appearances before the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia. She is an active member of The Advocates' Society and has served or assisted several not-for-profit organizations and boards. She was called to the Nova Scotia Bar in 2017 and the Alberta Bar in 2024.
