Overview

Shane Freitag is a BLG partner and National Leader of the Electricity Markets Group in Toronto. He focuses on corporate, commercial and regulatory matters in resource and infrastructure sectors, including electricity, gas and water. He acts for developers, hosts, lenders, purchasers and sellers on renewable and non-renewable generation, district energy and other infrastructure projects, with emphasis on project agreements and regulatory approvals. His work has included IESO procurement programs; natural-gas, electricity and emissions transactions using GasEDIs, NAESBs, ISDAs and EEIs; utility conservation and demand-management, suite-metering and connection agreements; and the restructuring of the Ontario and Alberta electricity industries. Before joining BLG, he was assistant general counsel and general counsel of large utilities in Ontario and Alberta and participated in the reorganization of Ontario Hydro, incorporation of Ontario Power Generation, transition of EPCOR, development of the Northern Accord and purchase of the Northern Canada Power Commission. He is also part of BLG's Environmental, Social and Governance initiative.
