Overview

Maria Valente-Fernandes is VP Legal & Corporate Secretary at Trolley, where she runs the legal function as part of the company's leadership. She spent the first nine years of her career at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP's Montreal office, focusing mostly on labour and employment litigation. After BLG, her in-house career moved toward smaller companies and broader responsibilities, including closer work with boards and legal-function leadership. She joined Trolley in July 2024, following the payout platform's Series B financing, and brings experience in problem-solving, company building and strategic legal support to the role. Maria has also contributed her legal expertise to the board-selection process of On Our Own (O3), a Montreal-based not-for-profit that provides transitional housing to single-parent households with young children. Her work and community involvement reflect a generalist, practical approach developed across private practice and in-house roles.
