Overview

Lukas is a Partner at Scott Venturo Rudakoff LLP and Co-Chair of the Corporate Commercial Group. He specializes in start-ups, acquisitions, reorganizations, shareholder agreements, succession planning, commercial lending and borrowing, and commercial leases. A member of the bar in Alberta and fluent in English and German, he offers extensive experience in negotiating and drafting documents relating to asset purchase agreements; subscription agreements; franchise deals; licensing agreements and helping businesses of all sizes in tough situations.
Lukas has a long track record of helping start-ups flourish and assisting larger companies enhance their value by assisting with crisis or change management, and mergers or acquisitions. He is known for his analytical skills and gets straight to the point to maximize value for his clients, delivering the information his clients need to make informed and calculated business decisions.
Lukas has experience in advising professionals, businesses or societies in highly regulated industries, including the health and education sector. He was lead counsel in the leading case regarding personal liability of professionals for business debts of their professional corporations under s. 107 of the Health Professions Act. This clarifying decision has an impact on every professional (whether in the health, legal, engineering or accounting sector) operating through a professional corporation (see Telsec Property Corporation v Tan Dat Tran Professional Corporation, 2026 ABKB 424).
He is supported by a team of corporate and commercial litigators who complement his corporate and commercial practice allowing him to assist his clients in business-critical situations and throughout the whole lifecycle of their business. In-House counsel turn to Lukas not just for guidance on day-to-day legal challenges, but for assistance with risk assessments for in-house decision-making based on legal and business fundamentals. Having lived in Australasia, Europe and South East Asia, Lukas brings an international perspective to his work and he advises many foreign companies on their business or investments in Canada.
Outside of the firm, Lukas spends his time with his family, volunteering on not-for-profit boards, trying to stay fit on his bike or hiking outdoors. Given his globe-trotting background, Lukas also never stops exploring the world and its diversity of cultures and lifestyles. He is a strong believer in teams that embrace diversity of thought and do not shy away from disagreements, to facilitate growth or solutions that push limits.
